Neuropsychology Assessments
I routinely carry out neuropsychological assessments for:
- Diagnosis: A clear diagnosis is vital for the most efficient intervention. Through the assessment results your healthcare team can focus their questions and treatments.
- Treatment planning: An assessment can help in considering which options are best and most necessary for you. The assessment can help us look at many aspects of treatment, such as medication, therapies, independent living and social interactions.
- Monitoring: It is important that you keep an eye on your progress on your treatment. Re-assessment can provide very fine details that your healthcare providers can use to alter or continue your treatment.
- Insurance / disability claims: You might be asked by your insurance to complete an assessment in order to receive your policy payout. This is sometimes not covered by the insurer.
- Financial and testamentary capacity: Following some diagnoses or assessment results, there might be questions about your/ your loved one’s capacity to manage important parts of life, such as money and changing a last will and testament. Assessment is vital here.
An assessment will help us to understand how your brain is currently operating and how this influences your behaviour (how you think, act towards others and process your emotions). In order to do this, you and I will go through a series of interviews and tasks and I will give you feedback on what I have found.
During a neuropsychological evaluation, we look at:
- Language
- Attention
- Processing speed
- Reasoning
- Remembering
- Problem-solving
- Mood
- Personality
Once the evaluation has been done, we will then find the most useful path for you, your significant others and carers to take
